If you're reading this posting either you're a teenager interested in bodybuilding or you're a parent trying to find more information for your children.

The biggest question is whether teenagers should be bodybuilders or not. With many years of experience and having trained hundreds of people, I can tell you that amongst those I've trained, a few were teenagers. Well, can teenagers train like bodybuilders or not?

They can, but the training should be different. See, bodybuilding can slow down your growth and I'm sure that is something you don't want. The heavy weights cause for the back bones to be pressed downwards a bit so if heavy weight is lifted by a teenager often then it might cause growth problems.

I have noticed in my career that many teenagers that start lifting heavy weight at an early age will grow approx one inch less than they would end up growing normally. Like I said, this is mostly due to the pressure being put on the back bones.

If you feel like you've grown as much as you're gonna grow, then you can start lifting heavy. This doesn't happen until you're about 19. From 18 to 19 years old you might grow about half an inch, but hey.... that is a lot. Remember, you don't stop growing until you're about 19.
